For the third year in a row, Metricon Homes has been named Australia’s Top Residential Builder after the recent publishing of the HIA COLORBOND® Steel Housing Report 2018.
Metricon Homes have reported an increase of almost 400 builds upon last year’s total, bringing this year’s number to 4,764 starts. Of this, 3,876 were detached houses and 491 were semi-detached dwellings.
Metricon Director Peter Langfelder said “We are delighted to be ranked number one for the third consecutive year.
“We’re committed to continually developing new homes to suit evolving customer needs and budgets, and it’s this focus on design and innovation that saw us continue our growth last financial year. Across our brands, we really do have a home for every Australian family.”
The total number of homes built by the Top 100 builders has fallen (by seven) for the first time in five years. The share of new home builds also reduced from 34% to 33%.
Despite this drop by the top 100, the year 2017/18 as a whole, will be recorded as one of the strongest on record.
The report reveals that around 222,000 new homes were commenced last year, making it the second strongest year on record and the strongest year for detached house builders in 18 years. This result indicates strong growth in smaller and independent building firms.
“Encouragingly, the HIA COLORBOND® Steel report highlights that there is still a strong building industry and demand for quality home builds Australia-wide.” Mr Langfelder said.
