Broken Ground marks Promising Future; Hotel Development

Ground has officially been broken at the site of the future $400 million Dorsett Hotel and Star Residences on the Gold Coast.

To mark the special occasion, Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate, and Queensland State Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, joined Vice Chairman of Dorsett Hospitality International, Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng, and The Star Entertainment Group Chairman, John O'Neill, for the shovel ceremony.

The 53-storey hotel will feature 316 hotel rooms as well as 423 one and two bedroom apartments with direct Star access.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described the development as a “shot in the arm” for the local economy. The project will provide 1,800 construction related jobs with an expected 500 further jobs once the hotel is in operation in 2022.

This important moment also heralded the entry to Australia of the internationally-acclaimed Dorsett Hotel brand.

With the turning of the soil, Star Entertainment Group are continuing an exciting year on the Gold Coast, after opening their new 17-storey hotel ‘The Darling’ ahead of the commencement of the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

The tower has been designed by acclaimed Cottee Parker Architects, in conjunction with multi-award-winning DBI Design. Australian privately owned construction company, Hutchinson Builders, has been named preferred contractor for the development.

The broader hotel development sector is an area of much significance to Australia’s overall property development market; both currently and into the future. International visitors alone (not including interstate) reached a record 8.3 million in the year ending March 2018 (up 8% on the previous year) and resulted in a strong 6% increase in spending.
